I haven’t posted anything for a while and I’m sure like many hunters this time of year is ruled by the need to get as much essential work done as possible. For me this means laying a large area of decking and levelling a corner of the garden for my sons trampoline. I will admit that whilst working I have been daydreaming about stalking Roe Bucks through woods at dawn or a warm sunny afternoon in a hide, filling my freezer with wood pigeon or even something as simple as fishing for summer mackerel. Frustratingly this will have to wait ...

P O R K F A T . Grab some pork fat from your local butcher to make some home made lard and crackling! Just cut the fat into chunks and simmer on low heat til you have clear liquid fat and crispy floating bits. It’ll take a few hours depending on quantity, when it’s done just skim off the crispy bits to drain and pour the liquid fat through muslin cloth into a clean jar to cool.
