#patternjanuary day 12 - Fruit or Veggie? I kept thinking strawberry for this pattern, but I made a strawberry pattern 3 years ago. Finally it occurred to me I should do an orange/cutie pattern in the same style. Heavy handed, loose line drawing, then colored in with watercolor crayons and then painted over. I LOVE citrus fruits, and I love this pattern. #oranges
Four days into February this is my last post for the #patternjanuary challenge, for the "Window" prompt of Day 31. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you @Aisforanika for hosting this challenge. Your daily prompts challenged me - as I had hoped - to think outside the box, outside my own little box, and to create lots of new blocks and new patterns... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now that the challenge is over - what would you like to see me post next? Please tell me in the comments below. Any particular motives or patterns you would like me to make? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ...
#patternjanuary day 10 - Beach. My idea was to recreate little rock piles, inspired by our trips to Kemil Beach at the Indiana Dunes State Park (one of my favorite places). Scroll through to the last image to see a picture I took of my brother making miniature stacks. I started to get lazy, thinking about doing the stones, so I thought a quick alternative idea would be to just do my watercolored stripes in a beach color palette. Of course, once I started actually painting, and finished the stripes, I just starting in on the stone piles right ...
Pattern January Day 24 (catching up!): Sun - I wanted to create a lighthearted dot in juicy colors that make me look forward to warm weather. Anyone else feeling over this gray day in Minneapolis? . . . #letsmakepatterns#patternjanuary
Day 31: Window #patternjanuary by @aisforanika. Last pattern in the challenge - thank you so much @aisforanika - it has been so funny to do this and I am not at all finished with pattern making❤️❤️ #patterns
The koru (Maori for "loop") symbol is based on the shape of an unfolding silver fern frond and is said to represent new beginnings, growth and peace. What is your favorite symbol? (Day 30 of #patternjanuary: prompt "Symbol") ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #printmaking
Day 28: Curve #patternjanuary by @aisforanika Still a little behind - but now I have made the last ones, I will post them over the weekend! Here I made a pattern out of some boring business graphs. #patterns
Pattern January day 30: symbol . May I present to you the eggplant, an international symbol of the pee pee. . No drawing for this one, just a computer sketch while looking at pictures of real eggplants. . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019
#patternjanuary day 8 - Kitchen. This pattern is pretty inspired by my SIL, a collector of Aprons and Pyrex. Each of the items were analog watercolored, or penciled, and then assembled digitally. The rolling pin is based off the actual rolling pin I have (handed down from my mother, and I think actually from my grandma’s collection of rolling pins) and the Pyrex is based on one of my own. The colors are all Dacia. #robayrepatterns
Thank you @aisforanika for leading us all on such an amazing journey with #patternjanuary2019. Participating has pushed me more creatively than I could have imagined. Was only going to post my 5 favorites but I am not above admitting that I slayed these patterns and am proud of the work I produced. So here is my top 12! 😜💛 #ibispaintx
So, no pattern today. In the meantime here are some patterns I came back to and tweaked a little. . I was working on today’s pattern last night (which looks great btw) and illustrator just quit on me. Of course nothing was saved yet, so rather than be super frustrated at restarting two hours of work, I’m just going to pick it back up tonight. . Is there anything you like to do when you get super frustrated? How d you deal with unexpected quips? . . . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019 ...
In many of my paintings I use circles! They could - if you use your imagination 😂🙈 - look like the end of a carpet roll. Today’s pattern - carpet rolls - swipe to se the full painting☺️ - Day 27: Roll #patternjanuary by @aisforanika #patterns
We love seeing how our Real Art Crew stays inspired. Check out these fun hand-drawn patterns our resident tessallation specialist @ohhopscotch did as part of the #patternjannuary challenge through @letsmakepatterns. - - - #patternjanuary2019
#patternjanuary2019 Day 20: “Scallop” I tried to do this print with a marker and pen on the airplane as we flew to Disney. However, I packed a crappy pen, it didn’t dry, and bled all over 🤦🏻♀️. So here is my vision in strictly vector. I’m taking some time to catch up with the themes that resonate with me. And boy, do I LOVE scallop prints! Might do a few that get posted in February, if I find the time. - - #letsmakepatterns
Day 29 of Pattern January (trying to catch up!): Vowels - wanted to draw hands signing letters, and liked the idea of pairing a silhouetted symbol to cue each sign. . . . #letsmakepatterns#patternjanuary
Pattern January day 28: curve . Got my days mixed up and accidentally went a day ahead. . I went rogue and just started on the computer!! No sketching. I also tried to just use only curved lines and curved shapes. . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019
Folktales...I actually don’t have any favorite folktale - maybe because I love stories in general! But... I still as an adult wonder what will happen if I kiss such a green little fella 🐸 even though I am very well married to my own prince❤️Day 26: Folktale #patternjanuary by @aisforanika #patterns
Pattern January day 26: folklore . I HAD SUCH A HARD TIME WITH THIS PROMPT. . I have always loved folklore, but I was having a VERY hard time translating that into a pattern. I didn’t want to go the “easy” route and do a folksy print, but then I just didn’t know. I’ve always loved the story’s about graveyards and hauntings so I just put in one of my favorite podcasts, Lore, and just started drawing. . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019 ...
I am a little behind, but today I made a pattern with old dial phones! Swipe and see the real dial phone from my childhood! I remember my friends had plastic phones in funny 70s colors I really admired - but now I think this one is so much more cool 😎Day 25: Vintage #patternjanuary by @aisforanika #patterns
Day 23 of Pattern January: Knick knacks! I didn’t have to look far for inspiration - I found these little vintage ceramic owls I found at an antique market, and they have been waiting patiently for some attention. . . . #printpattern#printandpattern
Day 20 - scallop. I’m all over the place. I have been drawing and not finishing. I have been dreaming about sewing, about baking, about soup. But I’m still in it. If I can just draw a little I’m hoping to keep my inspiration. #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019 @aisforanika
Pattern January day 26: Vintage . This one was fun because I took inspiration from my own lamp collection!! I love California pottery and when I started finding lamps using it, I had a hard time saying no. I love all the colors that are used and the Interesting patterns. It’s hard not being inspired! . I was having a hard time finding a way to show that the lamps are on, any suggestions? . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019 ...
Pattern January day 24: Sun . Still can’t believe there’s only a week left!!!! . I’ve really been digging this 70s vibe on this one. I know this is the third pattern that I’ve used the boxes, but I really like it. Any suggestions for something different? . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019
Today’s #pattern prompt for @letsmakepatterns is #vintage which I adore!! 🥰 I love vintage stuff! Like all things vintage!! I think it’s my love of history because with vintage things, there’s history there. There’s a story in things, and I love that! But I digress...vintage! Right!! So I did a pattern on vintage patterns (see what I did there 😉). I have to say...AHH!! I love her!! 😍🥰🥰😍🥰😍💜💜💜 And a swipe for yesterday’s prompt of which we got some of today. It was a cold wind too, but hey! The sun was shining so I’ll take it! . . ...
Pattern January day 23: Knick Knacks . I have quite the collection of collection, everything is considered a Knick knack. I love my thermos collection the most!! . What do you like to collect for inspiration? . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019
#patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019 Today’s inspiration word for the 27th is “vintage” which made me think of old tiles. I hope there is a bit of a rusty feel in there. It makes me smile how easily the word vintage is applied to things these days. Can something from the 1950s or 1960s really be “vintage”? I feel retro, but surely I am not vintage yet?!😂
Day 20 prompt for scallop. #tbt and #patternjanuary at the same time! Love this simple shape and how the print turned out. I made a bunch of these pouches last summer and gave them all to friends. Fond memories. Time for a stamp update and this post also makes me realize I need to get back to my sewing machine. Ps- the PDF pattern for the pouch is available in my online store ❤️ . .
I haven’t been able to keep up with the pattern challenge, but as I see the 24th January is to be “sun” I found this sunflower in my back catalogue (how grand that sounds!) so I grabbed it! #patternjanuary#sun
Pattern January day 21: Botanical Garden . I tried a different approach this time and started my research with a book! I was actually more excited that I had a book because I’ve been trying to build an art reference library. . How do you do your research? Do you find it helpful to have an arsenal or art books and magazines? . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019
Knick Knacks ... that was difficult, because I didn’t know the words 🙈 But I hope I have translated it right to the danish word “nips”. I have no Knick Knacks in my house, because cleaning shall be easy and that doesn’t work with Knick Knacks. But I have ONE ting, a little ceramic jar I got from my grandma when I was young. It felt good making it into todays pattern ❤️ Day 23: Knick Knacks #patternjanuary by @aisforanika #patterns
Here’s a #pattern prompt from a few days ago for @letsmakepatterns which was #botanicals, which I struggle with. I mean I can draw a flower, but true and beautiful (in my mind) florals never turn out how I like. So I decided to keep it simple and I couldn’t love it more! Sometimes simple is the way to go! 🌺 . . .
Pattern January day 20: can . Cannabis!! I went with words that start with or contain can. I can up with quite a few ideas, but I thought this one was a fun one. Trying different things with the background too!! . #patternjanuary#patternjanuary2019
Throwback to some pattern exploration in the @procreate app. When I was in high school I dreamt of being a costume or fashion designer. Ultimately, I decided it wasn’t my dream career. But I still have a passion for how we apply art to surfaces and how we transform a flat design - fabric - into a beloved, beguiling, or inspiring article of clothing. . . . . . . . #abstractpattern#abstractfabric ...
