The film THE SWAN, made by the very talented Asa Helga Hjorleifsdottir, is evocative and mythic. I was fortunate to be able to share some conversation with Asa recently at a screening at The Phillip's Collection in DC. We share an interest in how the innate power of the landscape is linked to human emotion. The film is now available on Amazon! #phillipscollection#thephillipscollection
Day 19: Dream Collaboration #marchmeetthemaker What’s more dreamy than deciding to collaborate with an awesome, likeminded and talented mama like @emily_frances_art on the same day the prompt is #dreamcollaboration. Not planned that way but must be meant to be! Met this girl in November last year and so glad I did as she’s a keeper. Check out her stunning oil paintings and give her a follow. This one is a stunning Icelandic scene, just hearing the sound of @sigurros looking at it. A purposeful little collaboration coming your way soon! ...
Last week we sent the final files of @iceland.isleofart to the printer. What a feeling after two years of work. Can't wait to finally hold the printed book in my hands! The test prints already looked very promising 😊🇮🇸📚 #outsoon#isleofart

“Eldfjall” /Oil on canvas /40x80cm /Reykjavik 2016 // One of the most iconic mountain in Iceland is the background of a turf house. Here, the balance between the natural environment and the architecture is just perfect. // #oiloncanvas#painting
Thinking back to Iceland today. It was such a surreal time that I am only still unpacking in my mind from my experiences there! I’ll never forget the golden light and long shadows or the way the wind howled through the house. . . . #iceland#sun
New mono-printing in progress, inspired by my exploration of the phenomenal Sólheimajökull Glacier. Since the mid-1990s, the Sólheimajökull Glacier has retreated by up to 50m a year, creating a huge lagoon at its snout (tongue). This dramatic erosion now reveals an amazing landscape featuring distinctive landforms such as kettle holes and an extensive outwash plain. This glacial retreat must be clear evidence of climate change and global warming. . . . #sólheimajökull#sólheimajökullglacier
It’s so surreal to say that I’m writing to you from Iceland this week. It’s just a dream come true and I won’t get tired of saying it! 😉 . Yesterday we walked around Reykjavík & went up to the top of Hallgrímskirkja, and sketched it in my journal. Today I’m on the South coast, in Vik! It’s sooo pretty! . . #getmessyartjournal#artjournalpages
This baby's going home! Just helped load the final piece of @sudeith 's 'Knight Errant' series to be taken back with its maker. For anyone who didn't follow me last summer, @annieparhamie and I helped Kevin with one of the most ambitious paper-making projects of all time (in my opinion 🤫). It is all handmade paper, pressed into a mould of Kevin's petroglyph of an Icelandic horseman he carved into a cliffside in Iceland. We made several iterations, taking the time to press each using a tractor. It was sweltering. It was intense. It was amazing. See some vids in ...
The first book about Iceland's art scene is coming out very soon and it's called ISLE Of ART - a project by writer Sarah Schug and photographer Pauline Miko. It was a pleasure to help them set up the design. Very excited for the final result arriving in 2 weeks! Follow @iceland.isleofart for regular updates! #isleofart#iceland
Sjómannaskólaviti (1944) The architecture of Reykjavík School of Navigation includes a lighthouse in its design. But since the building of seafront high dark towers downtown Reykjavík, the light is partly impeded from the perspective of the seafarers. As a result the construction of a new beacon light at the harbour of Reykjavík (Höfði) has begun this february. When fully completed in june, the light of Sjómannaskólaviti will stop shining. . ✏ 16 Feb 2019, -3°C || Reykjavík, Iceland . #vitiproject#lighthouseproject
Who loves paraphrasing?? I always love the idea of it, and have always wanted to be good at it, but I’ve never been good at it 😂 I actually dreamed of becoming a poet after studying Greek and Roman literature! There was so much to learn from their writing and storytelling. And it was fun! I was amazed by how such a short sentence could deliver so much meaning and feelings!! Such a sophisticated and romantic skill to have💓 Every now and then I try to get fancy with words—it’s not my forte but I’m working on it. If ...
Over here tryna blend in.. not doing such a hot job 😂 Oh well 🤷🏽♀️ Guess we were meant to stand out haha This is one of the first pictures from our very first backpacking trip. Lack of style = LVL 9000 😎
One of my recent paintings, conveying the ‘dynamic river of ice’ I witnessed at the tongue of the Sólheimajökull Glacier. In an excerpt from his poem ‘In the Deep’ the Icelandic poet Gyrdir Elíasson wrote, ‘When the lakes freeze over, life continues Beneath the ice, though most think there is no life there anymore’. . #sólheimajökull#sólheimajökullglacier
