@davidmerron with @get_repost ・・・ A group of Emperor penguin🐧 chicks follow the obvious 👀 leader. Snow Hill Island, Antarctica 🇦🇶. Once both parents are needed to head off to forage for food, chicks are left alone to fend for themselves. Instinctively they come together in kindergarten like groups for warmth and protection from lurking predators. They also instinctively follow either random adults, or each other, in search of their parents and their next meal. 🐧 🐧 #penguinselfie#babypenguin
@thomaspeschak with @get_repost ・・・ During April/May 2017 I spent almost a month on remote Marion Island on assignment for @natgeo magazine. This South African Sub-Antarctic outpost is a true global seabird hotspot, with 28 breeding species. These Southern rockhoppers are one of four different penguins that nest on @marionisland Photograph shot on expedition with the South African Department of Environmental Affairs @environmentza Please help us protect this island sanctuary by following @marionisland 🐧 🐧 * Follow us @Penguin.love.ig for more💝 #penguin?? #penguinlover

@megan_mccubbinphoto with @get_repost ・・・ Captured this moment between two Gentoo penguins ❤️ If you can’t show a cutesy photo like this on Valentine’s Day, then when can you? Males attract females by gifting them with pebbles to line their nest and performing a vocalisation called trumpeting. They’re monogamous meaning that they will stay with their mate for the duration of the breeding season and share chick raising responsibilities so both adults can go out to feed. 🐧 #penguinsofmadagascar#gentoopenguin
@frankaslothouber with @get_repost ・・・ I’m very proud to have won a bronze medal in the One Eyeland Awards contest 2018 with this photo. I submitted this image as an amateur in the category Nature/Wildlife. I ended up with a ranking of 7 out of 15 in a strong international players field in this contest, which fills me with pride and joy. 🐧 #penguinfamily#penguinselfie
A penguin's feathers play an important role in keeping them warm and dry in frigid climates/ocean waters. Just like our favourite sweater that gets worn out over time, so to does a penguin’s feathers. Each year, penguins go through a "molt" where their old feathers are pushed out to make way for new ones. This molt is sometimes referred to as catastrophic because unlike most birds who molt a few feathers at a time, penguins molt all of their feathers at the same time. The molting process lasts for 3-4 weeks and during this time, they don’t eat or swim ...
@oceana with @get_repost ・・・ Talk about a wake-up call! Gentoo penguins use calls to communicate with each other, attract mates and defend territories. Scientists have even discovered that these calls may vary among Gentoo habitats and isolated populations. 📷: Yori Hirokawa 🐧 💘 Follow @Penguin.love.ig for more 😉 * Comment below if You like this 💕 * 💘 Tag your friends 👇 #penguinbooks#babypenguin
I enjoyed some wavesride 🌊 before entering the Drake passage where we got lucky and experienced a storm with waves 5-6 meters high which I survived mainly lying flat to avoid seasickness 🤢 #planetearth#paradisebay
@davidmerron with @get_repost ・・・ Since I post about 90% penguins I feel as though today, World Penguin Day, was an absolute must penguin post. And what better penguin to post than than the crème de la crème(IMO) of penguins.... The Emperor Penguin(said with voice of David Attenborough). . Here an emperor penguin chick cozies up to one of its parents bellies in between feedings. . 📷Taken with the Canon 5D Mark iv body and the Canon 300mm f2.8is lens + 1.4ext iii. . 420mm-F5.6-1/2000sec-ISO100. . 💻Edited in . . 🐧 #penguinparade#penguinfamily ...

@christmannphoto with @get_repost ・・・ Contrary to the previous images, this is not a shot from the BBC Dynasties shoot, on which I worked as an expedition photographer and camera assistant together with @badgerboy05 and @willplawson in 2017 in Antarctica. Instead it is an image from when I first wintered in Antarctica as a scientist in 2012. . However one thing that has become quite clear for many people ever since they watched the emperors episode of the BBC Dynasties program is how hard growing up can be for this chicks in a surrounding like Antarctica. The response I have gotten ...
Probably my favorite photo ever taken of me (by my husband) ... facing off with a penguin in Antarctica. The most anthropomorphic creatures I've ever been around. I love them!!! #antarctica#antarcticawildlife
