We had an extra @growoya and decided to double up on this bed. We just want to make sure that the plants have enough water. If this works out better; we may add more to the other 3 beds. Gardening is all about experimenting. We will be adding mulch to help keep the moisture in.
For years, my neighbor (and fan) has made holiday bread for a few neighbors. She lost her husband suddenly in July. Right on cue, she was at my door on Friday with her spice nut bread which I am enjoying with my tea this morning. . . . #urbanorganicgardener#urbangardener’srepublic

Well looky what sprouted up in the front yard garden! Three little artichoke plants. 🌱🌱🌱 They will grow far too large to be this close together, so I’ll divide them in early Spring and plant them in different parts of the yard. (They overwinter just fine here in CA.). Are you growing artichokes? #organicgardening#garden
I 💗 Kensington 😊 there was a spring garden festival a few weeks ago and you could walk into this persons house and just look at their garden! Until I moved to Melbourne and plants were actually deciduous I never appreciated the changing season . . . . . . . #kensington#melbourne
I’ve got #nasturtiums popping up over. The peppers that I trimmed are coming back (cgn21500 and caramel Moruga scorpion). There is also an eggplant that has started growing again in the bottom left. I trimmed it to below the soil level since the root system is so massive that it can’t be pulled out. I’m interested to see how this all does and what kind of winter we get. It is supposed to be cooler next week and we may get rain.
A little less than 1 year into a permaculture front yard design and install for a client. There’s not much to look at after the recent snow storm with just a few kale plants surviving for now. Next year there will be real harvests of strawberry, blueberry, currants, and gooseberry. The Apple trees, asparagus, and rhubarb will be ready for harvest within 2 years while the perennial flowers will bloom every year, adding beauty and forage for beneficial insects. A lot more going on than meets the eye as usual. #observation#permaculture
I can’t bring myself to harvest these peppers. Two colors on the same plant?! I can’t remember where I got this transplant, but it was definitely from some big box shop where I found them on sale, which got me thinking: is this just a result of cross pollination, or chemical genetic modification? Or am I just impatient and that green bell is going to eventually turn yellow? Any other Californians growing bell peppers in November? Any gardeners want to chime in? So many questions! 🌱 🌱 🌱 #yearroundgardening#gardening
Looks like planting zucchini seeds mid September was worth the risk 🙌🏻. Anyone else had success planting the "wrong" season's veggies? It's been so darn hot this fall in So Cal that I'm sure I'm not alone!
Surprise carrot harvest while my son was cleaning out the garden beds 🌱 💚 I had left them alone because I thought they were total duds 😂 Shows what I know!! _____________ #surpriseharvest#frontyardgarden
It may be mid-November, but we have mild enough temperatures up here in the Pacific Northwest that the garden isn’t totally dormant this time of year. Looking forward to a year round garden for the second year in a row. #pnwgardening#frontyardgarden
💙💚💛My favorite Charleston garden, because real people have a pile of unspread mulch bags in their yard😉 & Those porches!!!! 🤗 I love my undergardeners so, but gosh it was awesome to get to garden stalk for a day on my own! Thank you to my baby👭 for helping me out!!! Love you!! #mulchit#porchsitting
Godmorgon Lördag! Skall snart kolla på slalom. Älskar vintersport. Men är glad om snön håller sig borta ett tag till. Bilden är tagen innanför en mysig grind i Paris. Visst är det magiskt! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #paris#parismonamour
➿ Look at the sky then you'll find the yard long beans 😂________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ #backyardgarden#urbangardening
You can only eat brown butter sage and rosemary roasted veggies so much, sometimes you need another use for these garden herbs. Rosemary and sage are both known to be great for your hair and scalp. With the changing seasons its a perfect time to infuse some in oil and make a nourishing scalp treatment. I chose to use 1 3/4 cups rosemary and 1 cup sage and infuse in olive oil for 6 weeks. Once strained with cheese cloth you can add essential oils if you’re into them and you’re all set. * * * * * #frontyardgarden ...

So I didn’t get my garlic planted as planned... Can you spot the raised bed peeking out of all the snow? So in the spring I’ll plant kale or onions or maybe more herbs instead... . . #gardenchat#bestlaidplans
Selfies are rare for me. I’m only posting this one because I can now say that I’ve installed a community parkway garden. Many thanks to Melissa, @healinginheels, for the opportunity and the help she provided. I trusted her and knew that she would do a great job. The account for that garden is @parkway.garden.project_lb. We will be posting garden news and how the harvests will be used. Let’s make #fooddeserts a thing of the past.
I just love these grasses. I think they look so modern. Especially the way they are done here. I planted them in front of my yard in really rocky soil mixed with some good soil and they grew taller than me from knee high in the first summer!! And I love that they are a drought tolerant plant so not alot of watering once they are established. Alot of movement in the wind. Height AND animation in the garden! And cheap for the wow factor they provide!!! #ornamentalgrasses#frontyardgarden
I really enjoy the #forestpansy in the front yard, this it's second year planted and it's really grown. I bought it from @onlineplantsmelbourne and even though I thought it was something else, it fits in perfectly. . . . #gardenlife
Just sitting in my little front yard urban garden feeling incredibly thankful for the bounty of seeds that came in the mail today. Thank you again Carolyn @peaspleasemicrofarm !! This IG garden community is so amazing. I don't have anyone in my daily life who gets the joy (and obsession) of growing food and flowers but I know y'all do! Now a happy dance for new seeds 😁💃😁💃
I decided not to plant garlic this year for the first time since I can remember. We won’t be living here next year, so it doesn’t make sense. My husband wanted to do it anyway, but it got cold quickly here so I crossed it off the list! #growyourownveggies#urbanorganicgardener
Look, a selfie! [Literally trying so hard to get your attention] I wrote up a lil blog post about our front yard garden. This labor of love has meant the world to me over the past 3 years. I had asked if folks had any questions i could answer in this blog but i realized I’ll need to make a separate post for that. So stay tuned, feel free to submit your questions and i promise I’ll get to them. Come take a walk down memory lane with me. Link is in my profile 🖤
