For the first time ever I saw the tiniest nest right outside the front door at the home of @marcellajoh. This little hummingbird nest is about the size of a ficus leaf (the tree it’s nestled in) and the eggs are the size of jelly beans. The mum was warming up her eggs which should hatch in about 2 weeks. (Update they just hatched!) I feel it is a blessing to witness this amazing piece of nature that is gracing this home and all who enter. Hummingbirds are my favorite little bird. #aintnaturegrand #hummingbird

Tree climbing in Monte Verde. Had quite the hike up to the trees; the ~5000 ft above sea level affected me more than I thought it would. No, I didn’t climb to the top, inside or outside of the tree. I am clumsy and get very dizzy off the ground, but I had fun playing around on them. The Ficus tree tragedy: The ficus root wraps itself around the tree growing from the top down and eventually chokes it out - eventually killing the tree which rots away. The ficus is left standing, forever in the shape of something lost. And yet though it seems a tragedy, the twisting roots and the empty space within protects so many creatures that would not otherwise have found that safety. I suppose the lesson is that tragedy has a balance or to remind us to look for the good in the bad. // #costarica #backpacking

This fella is doing well after its "procedure." You can see many of its new growth shoots coming out of the bark- a sign that she's recovering nicely (these trees can be considered both female and male, like many others). #tree #bonsai (I actually don't know if this is a ficus or not, but I'm able to identify my other trees)

В Палермо рай для ботаника :) здесь столько экзотических растений! среди них больше всего меня поразили бенгальские фикусы- называются баньяны . Это огромные деревья со свисающими воздушными корнями. Потом они укореняются в землю и становятся похожими на дополнительные стволы. Сначала я подумала что это дерево на подобие того, под которым медитировал Будда- дерево Бодхи. Но теперь я знаю, что это 2 совершенно разных вида фикусов : дерево Бодхи- фикус религиозный, а в Палермо- бенгальский фикус баньян . Жалко что такого красавчика нельзя в миниатюре вырастить на подоконнике:))) #ficus #ficusgreen

I’m so glad our #ficusaudrey is doing so well! It was a wishlist plant and I’m thrilled she’s part of our #plantfamily. The one thing I’m extra careful about is not to over water her - like many she’s prone to root rot. Can’t wait to see her unfurl her new growth!

(с) Ну не возможно с приближением весны не начать наполнять свой дом цветами, к семена я отношусь спокойно и морковку с кабачками и помидорами, огурчиками я ещё успею купить, а вот однолетние цветущие цветы не вызывают тёплых чувств, слишком много с ними возьни🙈 А пока на улице лежит снег усиленно озелению дом, ну и конечно уже на отправляла девочкам заказы по совместной закупке кустарников и хвойных, скоро буду приводит в порядок наш участок!
