Frost crystals formed only the lowest growing plants overnight. It was lovely to see bright twinkles of reflected morning sun on the phlox. Not a great photo, but the crystals were stunning in their perfection. #pocketsofperfection#getoutside
Water birch, Betula occidentalis, "cones." At least I think it's water birch. 😄 In the spring the generally unnoticed female catkins develop into seed pods after being wind pollinated. In the fall and winter they cling to the branch, filled with papery seeds. #getoutside#wandering
For me, being in nature is about noticing the little things. Piles of current leaves blown into a rock crevice. Lichen of all colors splashed over a boulder. Tracks of deer mice in the snow. Yes, the great landscape are eye candy, but the soul of nature is in the micro beauty which requires effort to see.
