What inspires you? Motivates you? What gets you out of bed in the morning? Worrying about what other people will say or trying to impress others is weak motivation. It’s strength changes with the wind of others opinions about you. In my view true drive has to come from within; from what you believe about yourself and why you think you are here. The most powerful drive comes from belief... that, is an internal fire that cannot easily be put out. Who cares what others believe about you or what they say about you. What do you say?
I have been battling with a spectacular lack of motivation lately. You know how it goes, you start to think you’ll just miss one session, and then it becomes two, and then it becomes a thing... I have to remind myself that it’s always harder to get back onto the bus than it is to stay the course.
This time last year I had to pull out of the Husqvarna race because I was sick. I was soooo bummed. I was convinced that I would be out of the series because it’s normally a race I do well at. In the end I managed to place 3rd for the season. Setbacks happen, you’ve just got to keep going because you might be closer to your goal than you think.
I was thinking today that it’s not about how hard you can go, it’s about how long you can go hard before you quit. It’s relatively easy to give it your all for a short time. It’s not easy to keep going when you’re done. And that, I think, is the secret weapon... for a lot of things.

The bike tale is 1 year old today. And this was my original post. Thank you to all those who have followed me, but especially to those who have stuck with me from the start! In case you missed it here is the original caption: 3 years ago, I was overweight and depressed and living a life of quiet desperation. Then I walked into a bike shop and bought a bike. It transformed my life. ... I lost 20kgs, went from riding at the back to riding in A batch. Over time I learned about nutrition, skills, training and ...
After being man down for the last few days it was good to be back on the bike. Rocking the Eastern Cape for the next week. Unlike KZN it almost never rains here, the only thing to contend with is the wind!!

Although I’m a firm believer in the idea that if one can ride a real bike one should, this bike was insanely fun to ride. If you’re in it purely for the giggles this thing is the ultimate laugh. As my friend Chris said ‘you could ride that thing all day and never get tired of it’.

I’ve been hiking the past 2 days and then came down with some flu... so there hasn’t been much riding! I have some cool news to share in the next few days. So watch this space. Hope you are all having a great start to the week! Happy Monday... 😋
There are some days when you just have to go and ride your bike. You know? When the wind is in your hair and the gravel is crunching under your tyres and your legs start to burn... somehow that brings peace to the world again. @hubtiger_app @callansbiketech @ryderseyewear @enjoy.za @hammernutritionsa

So.. there is something wrong with this picture. Perhaps only a cyclist would be able to see it... can you guess what it is? Let me know in the comments below! 👇 @michaeltonkinphoto
I’ve been off road bikes for so long I had forgotten how fast they are. In 3h I can normally do about 60k’s on my mtb. This thing can do 100km in that time. That’s at least 40% faster! It’s like a time machine.. how do you like my back to the future edit? 😋👍
All the best to everyone racing Kamberg today. Bummed I can’t make it. FOMO! Have a great race. 👊👍

Throwback to a few weekends ago racing at Toti. Wasn’t a great race for me. I just melted in the heat and then limped the finish. But as they say, the comeback is bigger than the set back! Have a cool weekend. 👊 thanks to @quickpixphoto for the snap. 👍
