🍷 Another long day in the middle of nowhere, among rocks, mud, waterfalls and stunning cliffs Once past the worst section we had a nice wine and nuts break with two fellow adventurers . Cycloscope . net . #bikepacking#bikewander
⛰️ Sani Pass, a legendary road in the no man's land between Lesotho and South Africa. The road goes down 1000 meters in just 8km, on a series of tight switchbacks which, needless to say, are barely rideable on loaded bikes . Cycloscope . net . #womanonbike#bikepacking

No place has ever had a magnetic pull on me like this place. I think of it daily and have honestly come up with over a hundred different routes to get to it just because I keep thinking that it’s the perfect middle or end to every adventure. I have no way to describe the feeling that it gives me, which has so often been bringing me to tears, other than by taking others there to feel it with me. When words and images don’t come close to reality then you know you’ve found something special. What a place. ...
The BODY follows where the MIND leads. My favourite mountain climb in Africa - #sanipass. 2 876m high, 1000 vertical meters of ascent in just 7.8 kilometres with gradients of up to 40% in certain sections. Sharp rocks, loose shale, altitude, extreme weather. Reckless taxi drivers commuting up and down the pass at ridiculous speeds. Herds of goats 🐐. Altitude. The number 1 ranked most dangerous mountain pass in South Africa 🇿🇦 Breathtakingly in every sense of the word. Will I be back to challenge my own record of 5 summits in 12 hours? 🤔 #letsee ... ...
Sani Pass is a mountain pass in South Africa, close to the Lesotho border. The road is a gravel road and therefor you can only enter with a four wheel drive. The route starts at 1.5km and climbs to an altitude of 2.8km. From the start all the way up to the top, this is the view you’ll have! 👌🏼🙏🏼⠀ • #zuidafrika#southafrica

Situated in KwaZulu-Natal, is the Sani Pass; a picturesque and scenic zig-zagging dirt-road drive. Many years ago, the prolific trade route was used to ferry wool and mohair for barter with the country stores. With so much history, these days the pass is used by hikers, local, and internatonal tourists to get away from the busy city and soak up its natural beauty and uniqueness. The Sani Pass stretches through South Africa and into the beautiful Kingdom of Lesotho. The pass reaches a high altitude, therefore in winter, you can expect snow, but in early spring, when the ...
The highest pub in Africa at the top of the Sani Pass and the border between South Africa and Lesotho. The steep winding road is not for the nervous 😀 Photo by @mrcalv and thanks to @southafrica #instameetsouthafrica
The road to Sani… . Sani Pass is one of the most talked about gravel passes in Southern Africa. It is the “Child of Fire” and for a long time, was the highest, longest and therefore most prestigious pass within our borders. Internationally acclaimed, adventure seekers come from all over the world to face this giant, usually in the form of guided tours in rented 4x4 vehicles. . Statistically, Sani is just shy of 2 880 meters above sea level. It has an average gradient of 1:20, which is quite impressive for such a long pass. This means that for ...
Another challenging bird to photograph was this Grey-winged Francolin up in the Sani Pass. We had four individuals calling around us from the thick grass but only one came out to show itself! #birdingphotography#birdlife
Africa's cold mountainous regions are home to incredible flora and fauna. It's here, high above the sea you can discover tribes that have lived relatively isolated for centuries. The magic diversity this continent offers with both people and nature is a treasure. Here a few herd boys stand on the edge of Lesotho and South Africa's Sani Pass.
