Day 3 on the Kumano Kodo brought us miles of hiking in the rain—but for some zany reason it all adds to the mysticism of experiencing this pilgrimage. The mist among the tall trees is one of the most amazingly calming experiences I’ve ever experienced. Also, the people we are meeting on the trail adds so much to the enjoyment of all this. Top today off with staying in this amazing onsen with this traditional Japanese room—couldn’t ask for more really!
Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route to Kumano-Hongu-Taisha Shrine: Hosshinmon-oji Shrine, the entrance to the precincts of Kumano-Hongu-Taisha Shrine. By the way, this route extends from here to Hongu is the most popular route among beginners. A journey around 7 km one way, I finished in a time of 2 hours.
